John F. Kennedy Short Biography: John Fitzgerald Kennedy, often referred to as JFK, was an American politician who served as the 35th president of the United States from 1961 until his assassination in 1963.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was one of the most popular Presidents of USA. He was also first Roman Catholic and the youngest American to be elected to the office of the President of USA.
John Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917, son of Joseph P. Kennedy, a successful businessman and politician of Grish Origin. After graduating from Harvard with honours in 1943, Kennedy joined American Navy.
During the Second World War, he was decorated for bravery when as a tarpedo boat commander, he saved the lives of his crew members. When war ended, Kennedy joined politics, as a Democrat and was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1946 and was re-elected for two more terms.
In 1952, he was elected to the American Senate. The Presidency of Kennedy was remarkable for the courageous handling of the ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’ in 1962 and advocacy of civil rights for Negroes.
In the Cuban Missile Crisis’ Kennedy made it clear that he would not hesitate to use even nuclear weapons if USSR did withdraw missiles from Cuba. ‘Why England Slept and Profile in Courage’ are his two most popular books.
Kennedy was also honored with Pulitzer Prize. His programme for reform at home, called The New Frontier was posthumously executed by Lyndon Johnson. Kennedy was a friend and a well wisher of India. He appreciated various development schemes in India.
On a fateful day of November 23,1963 Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald (who in turn was shot by Jack Ruby) when he was going with his wife to deliver a public speech in Dallas. In his death, world lost a farsighted statesman and a great champion of peace.
