Wamiqa Gabbi, born on 29 September 1993, is a versatile Indian actress known for her work in Punjabi and Hindi films. Hailing from a Punjabi family in Chandigarh, Gabbi’s journey in the film industry began with a small role in the 2007 Hindi film “Jab We Met.” However, it was her major success in the Punjabi film “Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22” (2013), alongside Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill, that catapulted her into the limelight.

Gabbi’s father, Govardhan Gabbi, is a noted author who writes in Hindi and Punjabi languages, using Gabbi as a pseudonym. Born into a family rooted in literature, Wamiqa Gabbi’s upbringing contributed to her diverse talents.

A trained Kathak dancer, Gabbi’s big break came with “Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22.” She went on to star in several successful Punjabi films, including “Ishq Brandy” (2014), “Nikka Zaildar 2” (2017), “Parahuna” (2018), “Dil Diyan Gallan” (2019), and “Nikka Zaildar 3” (2019). Beyond Punjabi cinema, Gabbi made her mark in other regional industries. She starred in the Telugu film “Bhale Manchi Roju” and the Malayalam film “Godha.”

Gabbi’s repertoire extends to various languages and genres. She played the female lead in the Tamil film “Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam” (2016) and the Amazon original series “Jubilee” (2023). In the Malayalam film “9,” she shared the screen with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mamta Mohandas. Her versatility also shines in the short film “Fursat” alongside Ishaan Khattar, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
