There are various forms of Mother Durga. Amman or Maariamman is considered as goddess of rain and ‘Kaval Deviam’ [Protector]. Maariamman is mainly worshiped in southern part of India. Her festivals are held during the late summer or early autumn season of Tamil month of ‘Aadi’ throughout Tamil Nadu and Deccan region, the largest being Aadi Thiruvizha.
