Dr. Manjunath commenced his medical career as an intern at Bangalore Medical College in 1982. Subsequently, he served as a senior registrar in the department of cardiology at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore.

In 1988, he joined the prestigious Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research as a faculty member. Over the years, he held various positions within the institution, from Assistant Professor to Professor of Cardiology, ultimately becoming the Director in 2006.

Known for his groundbreaking work in the field, Dr. Manjunath is credited with developing a new protocol in balloon mitral valvuloplasty. His expertise is evident in having performed the highest number of such procedures using the Accura balloon catheter in India. His innovative approach to medical procedures has significantly contributed to the advancement of cardiovascular care.

The Indian government recognized Dr. C. N. Manjunath’s exceptional contributions by awarding him the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honor, in 2007. Additionally, he received the Rajyotsava Prashasti, the second-highest civilian award from the Government of Karnataka in 1998.

Dr. Manjunath’s extensive research has been published in numerous national and international journals. With 73 articles listed on PubMed, his commitment to advancing medical knowledge is evident. His contributions extend to performing over 26,000 interventional procedures, with a particular focus on balloon mitral valvuloplasties using the Accura balloon catheter.

Apart from his role at Sri Jayadeva Institute, Dr. Manjunath has served as the president of the Indian College of Cardiology. He is also associated with the Mallige Medical Centre in Bangalore as a consultant and is a member of the Indian Medical Association.

Married to the daughter of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, Dr. C. N. Manjunath resides in Bengaluru with his family.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) honored Dr. Manjunath in 2012 with the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris causa).
