The film was officially announced in May 2021 under the tentative title SSMB28, as it marks Babu’s 28th film as the lead actor. The film’s official title was revealed as Guntur Kaaram on 31 May 2023. Principal photography commenced on 12 September 2022 in Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad.

Guntur Kaaram is scheduled to be released in theatres worldwide on 13 January 2024, coinciding with Sankranti.
